This work was carried out to investigate the effect of the fungicide, metalaxyl as a seed treatment on the defense enzyme peroxidase in maize during early germination. Maize seeds were soaked in different concentrations of metalaxyl and a control was maintained. Increased peroxidase activity observed in control and metalaxyl treated seedlings with growth is a common response to oxidative and abiotic stresses which suggest the role of peroxidase in detoxification of H202 produced during plant growth period and in fungicide stress caused due to higher concentration.
