Role of Magnetic Resonance Cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) in the Early Detection of Gallbladder Anomalies

Objective: To evaluate presence and types of congenital anomalies of gallbladder using Magnetic Resonance Cholangiopancreatography as a diagnostic tool.
Material & Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted from December 2025 to March 2026 in the Department of Radiology at University of Lahore affiliated Hospital, Lahore, Pakistan . A total of 410 patients were chosen with age range of 30 to 60 years. Before the patients were examined, they were scheduled. Before the inspection, individuals were given loose robes by the hospital and required to fast for 6 to 8 hours. Informed and written consent was obtained from each subject.
Results:Out of a total of 410 individuals, 195 are male, which constitutes 47.6% of the population, and 215 are female, making up 52.4% of the population. There were around 6 females out of 215 with a 2.8% prevalence of Phrygian Cap. Additionally, a 1.53% prevalence of Phrygian cap was noted in around 3 males out of 195 in total. It was noted in around 2.2%. The difference was not statistically significant(p=0.60).
Conclusion:Congenital abnormalities comprise a multifaceted spectrum of variations that commonly occur. Often found by chance during imaging or during assessing biliary colic, Phrygian cap is the most often seen congenital gallbladder deformity. In most cases, no need for gallbladder removal gallbladder removal.
