Abstract

Fertility is the natural capacity of an individual to conceive and produce offspring. In contemporary society, infertility and reproductive health concerns are increasing due to stress, unhealthy lifestyles, delayed marriages, and environmental influences. Ayurveda emphasizes the importance of preconceptional care as a foundation for achieving healthy pregnancy outcomes and producing physically, mentally, and intellectually healthy progeny. The concept of Garbhadhana Vidhi describes various measures to be followed before conception, including appropriate age for marriage and conception, menstrual care, maintenance of reproductive health, purification therapies, dietary regulations, psychological well-being, and lifestyle modifications. These practices aim at Beej Shuddhi (purification of reproductive elements) and Beej Poshan (nourishment of reproductive elements), thereby enhancing reproductive potential and ensuring healthy offspring. This review highlights the Ayurvedic principles of preconceptional care and their relevance in promoting reproductive health.
